Liaison with EDU and
Other Computer Organizations |
A regular member of the RCAC is the Ministry of Education representative from the London Office. Information about Ministry directions is received by this Education Officer. Concerns about Board/District Implementation is shared with this officer.
RCAC sends a representative to the Central Ontario Computer Association (COCA) as well has keeping close contact with the initiatives of the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario. (ECOO)
A part of every RCAC meeting is a round table discusson of what is happening in each Board with respect to computers, hardware, software, Internet connectivity topics, and new ideas are shared and often taken back for implementation in the partner Boards.
One of the standing committees of the RCAC deals with our own personal, professional development. We use our colleagues as presenters on a regular basis. Periodically, Ministry “Train the Trainer” sessions are help for important initiatives in software implementation.
| Support for New Curriculum |
As new curriculum is released by the Ministry of Education, RCAC members discuss the implication of computer technology as an aid to teachers.
Often called the best Professional Development session in the Western Region, over 400 Superintendents, Principals, and Educators attend this annual conference in London in December. Keynote speakers highlight the day. Past keynotes include David Thornburg, Alan November, Rory McGreal, Fred D’Ignasio, and Jamie McKenzie.
In addition, innovative computer related projects from the Western Region are showcased in breakout sessions. Symposium is anxiously anticipated by participants each year.
| Feedback and Support for OSAPAC |
The RCAC currently sends two people to sit on this provincial body of 11. The Mandate of OSAPAC is to license curricularly relevant software. Members receive progress updates and send our wishes to the committee through our representatives. Each meeting features a report from the OSAPAC representatives.

The Chair of the RCAC is a SWOEO member and shares SWOEO concerns with the RCAC. In turn, RCAC directions are shared with SWOEO.
| Integration of Computers Across the Curriculum |
RCAC members regularly share workshop ideas, materials, and resources so that we’re not constantly reinventing the wheel. Innovative projects like the Social Studies, History and Geography and the Science and Technology CD-ROM resources show a strong sense of inter-District collaboration.
| Research and Future Trends |
The Futures Committee meets regularly to discuss and share latest software, hardware, and techniques as they apply to education. The best of the best are shared at RCAC meetings. |
