Doug
Johnson has been the Director of Media and Technology for the Mankato
Public Schools since 1991 and has served as an adjunct faculty
member of Minnesota State University, Mankato since 1990. His teaching
experience has included work in grades K-12 in schools both here and
in Saudi Arabia. He is the author of four books: The
Indispensable Librarian, The Indispensable
Teacher's Guide to Computer Skills, Teaching
Right from Wrong in the Digital Age and
Machines are the Easy Part; People are the Hard Part. His
regular columns appear in Library Media Connection, Leading
& Learning and The School Administrator magazines and
his articles have appeared in over forty books and periodicals. Doug
has conducted workshops and given presentations for over 130
organizations throughout the United States as well as in Malaysia,
Kenya, Thailand, Germany, Qatar, Canada, the UAE and Australia and
has held a variety of leadership positions in state and national organizations,
including ISTE and AASL.

Redefine and retool your own 21st century education by
incorporating some of the current Web 2.0 tools into your own Personal Learning Network. During this session, morning keynote speaker, David Warlick, will elaborate on how this can be done and why you might want to do it.
This session will present Web 2.0 applications/concepts into a learning context, aimed at educators (teachers, administrators, governance) using these tools as learning literacy components.

Biography: Tim Hawes is a System Vice Principal with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, where he has worked as a teacher, consultant, and secondary VP for the last 11 years. His current responsibilities are for all academic computing as a manager in the "Business and Learning Technologies Department". Tim is also a member of the Ministry Advisory Committee on software (OSAPAC) and the Vice-President of the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario (ECOO).

Using the Literacy Strand as a Springboard to Media Analysis with Kathy Gallagher Windsor-Essex C.D.S.B.
Media Literacy the new strand in the Language document is the perfect
springboard to introduce teachers to the integration of technology with
the ministry curriculum. The framework presented will help teachers to
effectively use ideas from the eworkshop website and experience engagement
with several forms of media that contain messages for an intended audience
and purpose. They will be able to use these forms with their students to
encourage critical thinking, analyze a variety of multi-media and create a
variety of media texts.

Biography: Kathy Gallagher, as an experienced teacher, is currently part of The Board Strategy Team for the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board. In her role as a Board Literacy Teacher she has been involved with providing in-servicing and the coaching of teachers in the implementation
of a Balanced Approach to Literacy. At every opportunity she uses her skills in technology to promote integration with the language curriculum. Most recently she was a part of the W.O.W. Project (Writing On Wireless) that focused on improving the writing skills in the junior grades using iBooks and MacBooks as a tool.

What are the different levels of use of a SmartBoard in the classroom as a teacher becomes more expert in incorporating the SmartBoard into the curriculum? .

This session will focus on how a Powerpoint Presentation can be turned into an invaluable online learning resource through the use of Adobe Presenter. See how menus, voice narration, buttons and more can be added, and how the final product is created and shared via Adobe Connect and other tools.

Biography: Paul Hatala is currently a Secondary Information Technology Consultant with the Hamilton-Wentworth DSB. Prior to this, he was the head of science at Ancaster High School in the HWDSB for 8 years. While teaching at Ancaster High, he co-taught a specialized interdisciplinary course combining Biology, Chemistry and a research credit which was unique within the province. As a huge part of this course, technology played an integral part of the delivery. From podcasting, to webblogging and Adobe Connect conference, Paul has brought technology to his students.

This session is aimed at educators who are interested in the integration of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and how they can be used together in a classroom setting. We will explore both technologies, highlight some best practices, examples from real world applications, and most importantly go over how these technologies can be applied into your classroom together.

Biography: Iain is a GIS Analyst with the Schools and Libraries program with ESRI Canada. His role is dedicated to ensuring that educators have all the resources they need when it comes to software training, lesson development, and technical support. Iain has a Hon. Robotics is a popular and effective way for teachers to cover important areas of their Science, Technology and Math Curricula. Kids love it! They easily move from teacher directed tasks to independent learning projects. Robotic activities can help a teacher address many areas such as: learning styles, instructional strategies, problem solving and collaboration. This workshop will focus on the teacher’s journey from the introduction of
Robotics into a cross-curricular unit to the training of a Robotics Challenge Team. There will be samples of lessons, demonstrations,

Biography: Elaine Ernewein has used Lego Mindstorms in her Junior/Intermediate Science and Technology classrooms for several years and has found it to be a useful tool in reaching all students. She has presented workshops at the ROBOLAB Conference -Laurentian University and at the Interactive Technology in Education Conference -University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Her students have participated in Robotics Challenges, Marsville Rover Projects and have worked with Mentors from MD Robotics (Canadarm). Elaine is currently a Curriculum Support Teacher for Technology with the London District Catholic School Board.

This is a follow up Question and Answer session to Amber MacArthur’s afternoon keynote address on issues related to Web 2.0 and Social Media. As a web journalist, MacArthur traces the impact of emerging technologies on the way we live, work and play, and makes it all fun, informative and accessible. This is an opportunity to ask questions/discuss the effects of today’s Social Media on our students from their perspective and from ours.

Biography: Amber MacArthur is a new media journalist and consultant. Currently, she is the co-founder of web production house MGImedia.ca, a New Media Specialist at Toronto TV station CP24, a host of weekly video podcast commandN.tv, a co-host with tech guru Leo Laporte of weekly audio podcast net@nite, and is also a regular contributor on CBC’s Spark. Amber also works exclusively with The Lavin Agency as a keynote speaker on the subject of how to use Web 2.0 technologies to build community and customer loyalty.
Prior to what she does now, she worked as a TV journalist on a national news program for Citytv. While at Citytv, she also hosted a current affairs TV program called Webnation, which was about how the Internet is changing the way we live, work, and play. Prior to Citytv, Amber was a host for two years at G4TechTV Canada on Call for Help, Torrent, and Gadgets & Gizmos. She has also worked as a Web strategist at Razorfish in San Francisco and Microsoft Canada in Toronto.

Biography: Isaac Moore completed his Honours Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Education programs in 2005, gradutating from the University of Western Ontario. Hired by the Avon Maitland District School board in 2005, Isaac has become a heavy user of current technologies in his classes and extra-curricular activities to deliver curriculum and communicate with parents and students. Isaac is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a program that brings together a select group of expert educators who contribute lesson plans, ideas, and other resources. There are over 1200 ADEs in 22 countries who fulfill the roles of passionate advocates, authentic authors, trusted advisors and global ambassadors on issues relating to educational technology.
Isaac is currently a full time instrumental music educator working at South Huron District High School in Exeter, ON. The South Huron music program enjoys one of the highest levels of student participation and community support in the district. South Huron is also the only site in Huron County to be delivering the Ontario government's Specialist High Skills Major program in the area of Arts and Culture.

Biography: Johanna Lawler is a Teacher-Librarian with the Greater Essex County District School Board. Johanna has her specialist in computers and librarianship and has been a Computer Contact for the two schools that she has taught at while with the Board. Three years ago Johanna was selected, along with other educators, to open one of Greater Essex County's well known theme schools. Talbot Trail Public School opened its doors two and a half years ago where Johanna started a library from scratch. Under the direction of the Board's Computer Consultant, Doug Peterson, Johanna began the process of demonstrating a variety of interactive white boards that would later be the standard in all of the schools in that district. It is through her extensive white board usage, that Johanna was introduced to Destination Reading. Since that time, Destination Reading has been a big hit at Talbot Trail through Johanna's library program. There are SMART Boards in virtually every classroom at Talbot Trail and teachers have become discriminating users in their selection and use of resources. This especially applies to the types of activities chosen to be used with the SMART Board.
